What, why, and how do people fast?
Fasting is a spiritual discipline where believers voluntarily abstain from food for a time in order to seek God more intentionally through prayer, humility, and repentance. Fasting is a way to humble ourselves before God, seek His guidance, and express dependence on Him. Throughout Scripture, fasting is used to draw closer to God and align
our hearts with His will. Jesus taught that fasting should be done sincerely and privately, not to gain attention from others, but to honor God. (Matthew 6:16–18; Joel 2:12-14).
Biblical fasting is always connected to prayer, obedience, and a transformed heart, not just abstaining from food.
